Cheaters never prosper, but they might live long.

Update: It seems that before falling off the internet entirely, the official site for the game was updated, and the full version was available for download free for a time, so consider this closer to freeware than abandonware. You can find the full download below. Also good to know that the developer was doing stuff just one year ago, even if it was deleting all trace of himself from the web. Among the info on the archived site was how to get to the cheat menu in-game, in case you get stuck, as you can see above.

Earlier tonight, I found myself remembering a demo I had played about six years ago, of an obscure indie FPS/Adventure hybrid, developed using the unusual Blitz3D engine by a one-man studio in Uruguay. Part System Shock, part Resident Evil, part Myst, with a dash of vehicular combat, all held together with some interestingly low-poly retro (think ‘first-gen PS2') graphics.

I went in search of the final game. A tough job, considering that it was never reviewed by any mainstream (or even larger indie) site. I was worried that it never even got released, considering that the official site (link removed — it leads to a chinese porn site now!) had disappeared years prior, and that the only way to buy the game — direct from developer — was no longer an option. On top of that, the developer doesn't seem to have done anything online in the past four years, and was last seen responding to a Youtube comment on the game.

Grey legality abounds, but I’m calling Abandonware Exception here. The game is effectively lost. No active torrents exist for it, and the only download I could find was on an obscure (and seemingly also abandoned) Russian warez site. After getting it, unpacking and verifying that it was virus-free, I’ve decided to share.

And so, for your enjoyment, I hereby present the final, complete version of TECNO: The Base, Version 1.3. Download, unpack, have fun.

Update: Some kind soul has seemingly uploaded the game to the Internet Archive as well. Just in case the Mega mirror goes down.

It’s a 181mb download, compressed with 7zip. It’ll run on just about any PC known to man running Windows XP or higher, and apparently only needs DirectX 8.
